Army conducts pursuit operation against NPAs who killed 2 soldiers in Abra ambush

Abra, Philippines – Government military troops are now conducting a hot pursuit operation against the rebels who ambushed and killed 2 soldiers in Sitio Kutop, Barangay Gacab, Malibcong, Abra morning of October 27, 2022.

It is reported that the group of soldiers was bound to Baay-Licuan of Abra on Thursday to assist the members of the disaster response team when the ambush happened.


The group was said to have stopped to fetch water when they were suddenly attacked by around 10 members of Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) of Northern Abra.


The sudden attack killed two soldiers identified as Private First Class (PFC) Ariz Bautista, 26, a resident of Magsingal, Ilocos Sur, and PFC Jimmy Viernes, 25, a resident of Tuao, Cagayan.

Survivors are PFC Raymond Galo, 28, a resident of Guimba, Nueva Ecija, and PFC Randy Cinco,28, a resident of Tinglayan, Kalinga. The group is a member of the 24th Infantry Battalion.


In said ambush, the leftist group took two 45-caliber pistols, 6 bullets, and cell phones from the armies.


At present, the cadavers of the victims are now in Bangued, Abra.


The 24th Infantry Battalion together with the Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PROCOR) officers has recently been stationed in neighboring areas of said barangay and has been ordered to apprehend the involved Communist Terrorist Group.
