Cagayan, Philippines – It was a one fine Monday morning for the community in Bulala, Camalaniugan in Cagayan when they were rattled by the sight of a newborn left at a comfort room in their barangay

The baby with her umbilical cord still attached to her was found lying on the floor wearing nothing on February 17, 2025.

This prompted concerned citizens to call the attention of the Rural Health Unit who rushed to the area to check on the infant who they later named ‘Baby Mattie’. After applying first aid, Mattie was taken to the Matilde A. Olivas District Hospital (MAODH) for further assessment and care.

As recounted by MAODH Chief, Dr. Charito Cipriano, to the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, the doctors and nurses immediately attended to Mattie when she was taken to the hospital as she had a weak heartbeat.

Right now, the doctor said, the infant is in a stable condition with her basic needs already provided. She’s being taken care of by the hospital personnel.

Authorities, meantime, are investigating the incident and currently looking for the person who left the newborn inside the comfort room. The police are also coordinating with nearby establishments for CCTV footage that will help them identify the person who left the baby.
