Baguio City documents 34 cases of child abuse from Jan-Mar 2022

Baguio City, Philippines – A total of 34 child abuse cases were documented in Baguio City for the first quarter of 2022. This is according to the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development.


CSWDO Officer-in-charge Liza Bulayongan revealed through Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation that 21 of the 34 child abuse victims are girls while 13 are boys.


She added that of the 34, 18 children were sexually molested; 9 were physically assaulted; 6 were psychologically abused, and 1 was neglected.

In response to this alarming and increasing number of child abuse in Baguio City, the CSWDO has already coordinated with the different barangays in the city for the strengthening of Barangay Councils for the Protection of Children.


Meantime, in 2021, a total of 95 child abuse cases were documented in Baguio City. Most of these cases were girls with 72 cases.

Of the figure, 48 cases were sexual abuse, 34 were physical abuse, 7 were psychological abuse, and 6 were neglected by their parents.


All the 95 children are now safe and were brought to care shelters.
