Baguio City faces challenge over acceptability of COVID-19 vaccine

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

Baguio City, Philippines―The city government is working intensively on the acceptability of CoViD-19 vaccination among health workers and residents and continuous registration on master listing of those who are willing to get vaccinated, said Mayor Benjamin Magalong.

According to Public Information Office-City of Baguio, Mayor Benjamin Magalong said that the registration for those who wants to avail the vaccination program still continues through the help of the system given free by a big company.

“In the absence of the delay pa ng vaccination information management system, we will create our own system muna through the help of a big company na they’re giving to us for free and it’s been used in other countries tapos saka nalang natin i-integrate kapag natanggap na natin yung national government na sponsored na VIMS, so we will continue to fill out yung ating registry para tuloy tuloy yung pagregister ng mga taong gustong magpabakuna,” he said.

Magalong said that they are also working on the increase of acceptability rate among the people especially the health workers in the city since there have been many issues circulating in the internet.

“Ang challenge natin ngayon is we have to increase the acceptability… ang maganda naman dito is sa hospitals significant na yung increase pero alam mo dahil dito sa social media dahil sa mga adverse na mga publication din ng ibang mga tao eh talagang nadidiscourage yung mga tao na magpabakuna o kaya yung mag avail ng bakuna o kaya magparegister so ito yung mga inaaddress natin ngayon,” he said.

Vaccination acceptability rates in hospitals

He mentioned that Saint Louis University has increased to more than 90% acceptability level and Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) having more than 88% acceptability level.

While Pines City Doctors’ Hospital and Notre Dame de Chartres Hospital have low acceptability level which is why there is a continuous town hall meeting to convince all their health workers and submit themselves for vaccination.

“At the same time, last week nagkaroon din tayo ng tinatawag nating town hall na virtual para maaddress natin at masagot natin kung ano yung mga agama agam at yung mga questions na gustong iraise ng mga taong naghehesitate na magpavaccinate,” he said.

“Pag dumating yung vaccines na donation from WHO merong allocation kasi kailangan nating unahin muna yung ating mga health workers and the good news is Baguio City will be the one of the recipients of that,” he added.
