Baguio City, Philippines – Mayor Benjamin Magalong has recently issued a directive to have at least 11,000 elderlies around the city be registered and inoculated to saturate the vaccination of said demographic group.

The Public Information Office of Baguio reported on Monday, August 2, 2021, that Magalong mandated city, district, and barangay officials to implement the directive.

According to the Baguio City Health Services Office (CHSO), only 21,045 were vaccinated out of the 32,603 registered elderlies in the city as of July 31, 2021.

Based on said record, 1,605 have had the Johnson and Johnson vaccine while 19,440 completed their dose of Sinovac, Astrazeneca, Gamaleya, and Pfizer vaccines.

In the report of PIO Baguio, the mayor ordered a “search out” and registration of all seniors with the help of the barangay health emergency response team (BHERTs), in coordination with their local officials.

To encourage more people, Magalong said that cash incentives will be awarded to the barangay local government units who could reach 95 percent vaccination of the total of their registered senior citizens.

Cash incentives which amount to P50,000; P30,000; P20,000; and consolation prizes are among the prizes which they can receive to be awarded during the celebration of Baguio day on September 1.

Further, the mayor, in an earlier directive, instructed barangay officials to explain death cases in their jurisdictions, particularly when it involves those in A2 (senior citizens) and A3 (adults with comorbidities).

To date, PIO Baguio said that 96 percent of Covid-19-related deaths in Baguio are those who have not yet received their vaccine and the majority are senior citizens.
