Balbalan holds 2024 Municipal Athletic Meet

Balbalan, Kalinga – The sportsmanship flame in Balbalan for 2024 was lit on December 11, officially signaling the start of this year’s Municipal Meet in town.

On said day, hundreds of iBalbalan athletes gathered to play for a spot in the delegation the municipality will be sending to compete in the 2025 Kalinga Provincial Athletic Meet.

In the three-day event, the elementary division are playing at the Balbalan Central School while the secondary are competing at the Balbalan Agro Industrial High School.

Mayor Almar Malannag, who personally graced the opening ceremony on Wednesday, encouraged the young players to keep honing their skills and adding to their passion in sports as the Municipal Local Government Unit of Balbalan is there to support them all the way.

“Ipapati yu lang ta adda iti local government of Balbalan karkaru adda daytoy mayor yu nga full support iti sports… Adda iti likod yu iti LGU, adda likod yu iti opisyales, adda ni mayor ditoy likod yu nga tumulong kadakayo,” he assured.

Malannag stressed that there are a lot of talents and skills among the Balbalan youth, they just need to be cultivated and supported which is why the LGU is closely working with the youngsters in the municipality to provide what they need.

In his talk, he made an example of the support the LGU gave to some iBalbalans who were qualified to join the 2024 CARAA Meet in Apayao for them to be able to participate in the event given their potentials.

“Isu kunak nga haan kayo madanagan ta dakami ditoy LGU Balabalan, every now and then every year, nga adda iti pondo mi latta nga mapan dita[sports],” he said.
