Balbalan LGU gives youth a chance on leadership; Selected youth leaders to assume elective and appointive posts for a week

Balbalan, Kalinga – Eleven teenagers will be taking over elective and appointive posts at the Local Government Unit of Balbalan on Monday, June 30, as part of the LGU’s initiative to give the youth the chance to participate in governance and leadership.

Led by Mayor Almar Malannag, the municipal government earlier called for the selection of young individuals ages 13 – 17 years old for the ‘Boy and Girl Officials’ program of the LGU. Those selected will occupy positions at the LGU for a week starting June 30 as part of the town’s celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan.

Based on the selection result, four of the eleven are under the Alternative Learning System. The requirements to be selected include background, vision for the youth, and capability to fulfill the roles of a local official. Their qualifications were scrutinized by LGU employees and stakeholders.

For a week, the 11 will be showing and honing their leadership potential, communication skills, and commitment to community service under the guidance of the LGU leaders and personnel. At the end of their immersion, the most outstanding ‘Boy or Girl Official’ will be awarded P7,000 while the rest will be given a P1,500 incentive.

Mayor Malannag, meantime, stressed that the future of Balbalan depends on the next generation. Thus, the need to prioritize them and provide them opportunities to learn, grow, and cultivate their skills and talents. 

“The future of Balbalan lies in the hands of our youth. By giving them opportunities to lead and serve, we are investing in a brighter, more progressive community. I am proud of our young leaders and confident that they will bring fresh ideas and energy to our municipality,” the mayor expressed through the Balbalan Municipal Information Office.
