Balbalan, Kalinga – Leading by example, Mayor Almar Malannag led the Balbalan local government employees to help prepare the learning environment for learners ahead of the opening of classes for the school year 2025 – 2026.

DepEd Order No. 12 series of 2025 stated classes at public schools will start on June 16 and will end on May 31, 2026. While this school calendar, which reverted to the June–March classes, is for public institutions, DepEd said private schools may also adopt it.

On May 26, the LGU Balbalan through its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, personally led by Mayor Malannag proceeded to St. Theresita’s School- Salegseg, to participate in the first day of Brigada Eskwela at the school.

The team from the LGU along with teachers led by Principal Francilyn Quindara, students, and community volunteers worked together to ready a clean and safe learning institution for the students to stay in as they study and cultivate their intellect, skills, and talent in the new school year.

Malannag, who is an alumnus of STS Salegseg and the current Alumni President, conveyed the importance of a conducive learning environment to pupils and students, citing that they learn best when they are comfortable. He added that the LGU Balbalan puts high regard and gives full support to education, being the key to a better future.
