Benguet couple buried in a landslide recovered after 3 days

Itogon, Benguet – After three days of a search and retrieval operation at around 7:47 AM on Friday, August 20, 2021, rescuers finally found the body of Morina Simeon Lintan, one of those buried in a landslide on Tuesday, August 17, along the Antamok River in Barangay Loacan.

The victim was earlier identified by authorities as Maureen Talangcag, 57.

The remains of Nestor Talangcag, the live-in -partner, were earlier recovered at 2:20 PM on Thursday, August 18.

Both victims are miners and are residents of Beda, Loacan, Itogon, Benguet.

Police previously reported that the couple was panning for gold when the landslide occurred, resulting in the incident. However, relatives later clarified that the couple was just walking along the river when the incident happened.

Relatives claimed that they tried calling the attention of the couple to warn them of a landslide taking place, but the two could not hear their shouts with the noise coming from the river.

In an earlier report by Bombo Radyo Baguio, they said that the two children of the victims were saved from the incident after they managed to outrun the landslide.

Drowned man found along Bangao River

Meantime, in Bokod, a cadaver of a man believed to have been drowned was found along the Bangao River.

The body was later identified as Rico Bayawoc, 30, a native of Tinglayan, Kalinga.

According to Bokod Municipal Police Station, Bayawoc was a laborer at Chacharo Galeng KATHA Builders based at Moatong, Poblacion, Bokod.
