Tabuk City, Kalinga – With families going out to rivers for a picnic this Holy Week, the Bureau of Fire Protection Tabuk reminds the public to remain alert and cautious to avoid any untoward incidents such as drowning.

During the Lent Season, drowning is one of the main causes of tragic incidents, with the PNP recording around 34 cases in the country last year. Fortunately for Kalinga, zero incidents were monitored in 2024, and the authorities want to keep it that way in 2025.

For this reason, joining other agencies and offices, the BFP Tabuk deployed its first aid teams and personnel at strategic places and at different rivers to watch over families who venture out for picnics, especially on this Black Saturday.

In a statement, BFP Tabuk Acting Fire Marshal, FSInsp. Arlyn Diwag, said anyone going out for a swim should be careful, and parents to always keep their kids under their watch when they are in the water.

“When having an outing like swimming, let’s be vigilant with our young ones to avoid any untoward incident,” she said while encouraging the public not to overlook the real essence of the Holy Week, which is to commemorate the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who died at the cross.
