Brgy. Captain of Claveria dead, 9 others injured in Alcala, Cagayan road accident

Alcala, Cagayan -  A 54-year-old public servant was killed, and nine others were injured in a road accident in Alcala, Cagayan, during the early hours of July 18, 2025.

The casualty, based on the report of the Cagayan Public Information Office, was identified by the police as Jesus Calatican, Barangay Captain of Lablabig, Claveria.

The injured individuals, meanwhile, were China Rubio, 57; Andres Rubio, 52; Rosalie Udac, 65; and Princess Udac, 26—all from Brgy. Lablabig: Edimar Pascua, 49; Benelyn Martinez, 44; Pedro Cabangin, 65; along with two minors from Brgy. Killing.

The Brgy. Captain, who was the driver, was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while the injured passengers are now in a stable condition.

Claveria MDRRMO officer Jerome Ibarra reported to CPIO that the victims were en route to Isabela from Claveria on board a barangay vehicle when the tragic accident transpired.

The photo attached in the report of CPIO showed that the vehicle is a cab truck-style with a box-type rear, commonly used for public service.

An investigation conducted by the authorities revealed that the vehicle lost control while navigating a sharp curve in Barangay Pared, Alcala, veered off course, and fell.

It was not mentioned in the report where the vehicle fell, nor the depth.

There was no sign of intoxication found on the part of the barangay captain, but authorities initially concluded that unfamiliarity with the road may have contributed to the incident.

Further investigation is ongoing to find the real cause of the crash.

Following the incident, authorities remind motorists, especially those unfamiliar with the roads they travel, to exercise extra caution to avoid such a tragedy.
