BARANGAY NEWS

Lacnog, Tabuk City – The Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Lacnog continues to strengthen its campaign for a cleaner and healthier community through its weekly clean-up drive, while urging residents and passersby to do their part by properly disposing of their waste and avoiding littering.

Led by Punong Barangay Joel L. Alunday, the regular clean-up activities form part of the barangay's ongoing environmental program aimed at maintaining cleanliness, reducing flood risks, and preventing problems caused by improper waste disposal.

Barangay officials and volunteers conduct weekly clean-up operations along roadsides, drainage canals, waterways, and other public areas to keep the community clean and ensure the free flow of water, especially during the rainy season.

In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Alunday emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility and should not rest solely on the shoulders of barangay officials.

“Weekly daytoy clean-up drive tayo ditoy Barangay Lacnog. Maysa daytoy nga wagas tapno mamaintain tayo ti kalinisan ken ma-address tayo ti epekto ti basura, lalo nu umay ti bagyo ken panaglayos. Ngem ti kalinisan ket saan laeng a responsibilidad dagiti opisyal no di ket amin nga residente ken uray dagiti lumablabas ditoy barangay,” Alunday said.

The village chief noted that despite the regular clean-up drives, some individuals continue to throw garbage indiscriminately. He therefore called on the public to support the barangay's “Kalinisan” initiative by practicing proper waste disposal and actively participating in community clean-up activities.

The BLGU also reaffirmed its commitment to sustain environmental programs that promote responsible waste management and preserve the cleanliness of the barangay.

Lacnog is among thousands of barangays nationwide participating in the Department of the Interior and Local Government's (DILG) Kalinisan Program, which encourages community involvement and recognizes outstanding barangays that excel in cleanliness and environmental stewardship.
