Businessman shot by robbers in Tabuk City, suspects still at large

Updated: Oct 30

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A gold buyer was killed in a robbery attempt at his shop in Purok 6, Bulanao, today, October 29.

The victim was identified as John Cabbigat, a native of Ifugao and a resident of Purok 5, Bulanao.

PNP Kalinga Spokesperson, PCapt. Ruff Manganip told GURU Press Cordillera that Cabbigat’s brother relayed that three individuals – one wearing a black shirt and pants while the two are wearing tactical pants – went to the victim’s shop on Tuesday morning.

The two suspected robbers in tactical pants were the ones who entered while the man in black remained at the door as a lookout.

The initial investigation revealed that the suspects, armed with a handgun, shot Cabbigat and attempted to kill his brother. However, the gun malfunctioned, allowing the brother to escape and seek help. The suspects fled the scene, the two ran towards the overpass while the other one who remained at the door of the shop ran towards the rotunda.

Cabbigat was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

A hot pursuit operation has already been launched by the operatives and Manganip is appealing to the public who has knowledge of the perpetrators to report to the police to expedite the identification of the suspects.

“Panawagan tayo kuma iti publiko ket tumulong tayo kuma iti identification dagitoy suspect … tapnu maikkan tayo iti justice daytoy biktima,” he said.

Further investigation of the case is ongoing.
