Cagayan fisherman drowns after falling off his boat

Cagayan, Philippines – A fisherman from Gonzaga drowned while fishing at dawn on February 24, 2022.

The victim identified as Ronel Tolentino, a resident of Barangay Sta. Cruz, was already lifeless when they found his body the day after he fell off his boat, the Cagayan Provincial Information Office reported.

Data from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Gonzaga revealed that Tolentino went fishing at dawn. However, his boat was hit by a huge wave while onboard causing him to fall into the water.

Other fishermen were not able to save him since the surroundings were dark, and the incident happened so fast they were not able to immediately act on it.

Various teams led by the MDRRMO – Gonzaga launched a search and rescue operation. Unfortunately, the victim was already dead when they found him this February 25, 2022.

The fisherman’s remains were already brought to his residence.
