Calayan, Cagayan receives P.5M aid from LGU Pasig

Calayan, Cagayan – The Municipality of Calayan received P500,000.00 financial assistance from the Pasig City Local Government Unit on October 15, 2025 at the City Mayor’s Office in San Nicolas, Pasig City to help the island recover from the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Nando.

The said assistance was personally received by the representatives of Calayan Municipal Government.

It can be recalled that Super Typhoon Nando made landfall over Panuitan Island in Calayan, Cagayan under Signal No. 4 on September 22, 2025, leaving widespread destruction and severely damaging infrastructure, farmlands, and residential homes.

Cagayan reported eight fatalities.

On October 2, the Pasig CPIO said the grant, which was part of the P5.5 million financial assistance proposal of the Pasig CLGU headed by Mayor Vico Sotto to five local government units severely affected by Typhoon Nando, Typhoon Opong, and the magnitude 6.9 earthquake, was discussed during a special Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DRRMC) meeting.

The proposed allocation was later approved on October 3 through a special session officially confirming the granting of the assistance to said local governments.

Other local governments who benefited from the allocation included the Provincial Government of Masbate, City Government of Bogo and Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro receiving a total of P1,000,000 each; and the Provincial Government of Cebu which received P2,000,000 assistance.

Meantime, the Municipal Government Unit of Calayan expressed their gratitude via Facebook post to Mayor Vico and the Pasig City Government for their compassionate support during their recovery.

“Muli, maraming salamat po Mayor Vico at ang pamahalaang Lungsod ng Pasig. Sa pagbangon muli ng Calayan kasama namin kayo. Ang iyong kabutihan ay tunay na sumasalamin sa diwa ng pagmamalasakit at pakikiisa!” the Calayan MIO wrote.
