Balbalasang, Balbalan ready to supply commercialized bamboo kiosks

Balbalan, Kalinga – Fifteen local carpenters in Balbalasang can now supply bamboo kiosks in Balbalan after having been trained on commercialized bamboo kiosk making from November 23 to 29, 2022, in Balbalasang, Balbalan.


The training was spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry-Kalinga through the Negosyo Center of Balbalan, in partnership with Balbalan local government unit.


DTI-Kalinga said the training was initiated with the vast number of unutilized bamboo in the area, which can be transformed into more useful products.


“The five-day training aims to utilize the use of bamboo within the locality into a more useful product that can escalate and enhance the appearance of tourist spots along Balbalasang,” DTI-Kalinga said.

Likewise, the training is also envisioned to spur new industry in the locality and provide more income for the locals.


In his privilege talk, Odessa Garcia of the local government unit Tourism Office encouraged the trainees to apply what they learned during the training and assured them that their office will help in the promotion and development of their products.


The participants, meantime, expressed their gratitude to DTI-Kalinga for bringing the activity to their barangay.


They likewise requested the agency another training involving said skill for them to enhance further their newly learned skills.

As the product of the training, the participants were able to craft several bamboo kiosks and turned over the best one to the local government unit of Balbalan.


“…the participants decided to hand the best-finished bamboo kiosk to LGU-Balbalan through the Tourism Office for promotion, and on the other hand, the other will be set as a sample for the reproduction of their newly established bamboo product,” DTI-Kalinga stated.
