Tabuk City, Kalinga – A former rebel from Cagayan admitted he only got the chance to leave the leftist group to which he once belonged after being assigned to Kalinga recently.

The confession of the 52-year-old former rebel was made after he voluntarily surrendered to Cagayan police on Wednesday, March 13.

He was identified by police as Arnold, a farmer and a resident of Culung, Tuao, Cagayan.

According to him, it was in 1990 when he was recruited by the group and underwent various trainings just like other rebels did. He relayed that while being a member of the leftist group, he was able to meet various commanders of the CTGs.

He recounted that he experienced encounters against the government troops, one of which resulted in the demise of one of his comrades.

He likewise shared that he became the team leader of his group and participated in extortion activities and other activities such as burning of other people's properties.

After more than 30 years of being a rebel, he eventually abandoned the group when he had the opportunity to flee while in Kalinga.

During his surrender, he presented to the authorities a long, homemade caliber 7.62 mm.

It was also on the same day when four CTG supporters from various municipalities in Cagayan submitted themselves to authorities.
