Tabuk City, Kalinga – One of the country’s most revered Original Pilipino Music (OPM) singers, Noel Cabangon, is set to serenade iKalinga music enthusiasts as he joins the much-anticipated Kalinga Balikbayans celebration on February 15, bringing his signature acoustic sound and timeless hits to the province in a celebration of music, culture, and community.

As part of the five-night Concert at the Park, Cabangon is scheduled to perform in what is expected to be one of the highlights of this year’s music fest. Known for his socially relevant songs and poetic lyrics, the folk icon has long inspired audiences across the country with music that reflects Filipino identity, struggles, and aspirations.

Among his signature songs are “Kanlungan” — frequently played for its nostalgic and reflective lyrics — as well as “Tuloy Pa Rin” and “Panaginip,” among others.

Cabangon rose to prominence through his acoustic-driven sound and meaningful compositions. His performances are often marked by heartfelt storytelling and emotional depth, creating a strong connection with listeners of all generations.

Hailing from Rosario, La Union, Cabangon discovered his passion for music at an early age and began his musical journey at 10 years old. By 1982, he had started gaining recognition in the local music scene, performing in small folk houses and bars. In 1987, he co-founded the folk group “Buklod” with Rene Boncocan and Rom Dongeto, producing music centered on themes such as environmental protection, human rights, and political awareness.

The finale concert is expected to draw not only local residents but also balikbayans reconnecting with their roots, serving as a special gathering to honor overseas iKalingas and their invaluable contributions to the province and the country.

Joining Cabangon is local band Flights of Fancy, performing songs ranging from the 1960s to the early 2000s. The five-night musical celebration features a diverse lineup of local performers, offering a mix of classic hits and contemporary sounds.
