Cordillera's Best Tourism Villages unveiled, P2.2 million awarded


Luna, Apayao – ‘Hidden treasures have been discovered and the gems have been unraveled,’ says the Department of Tourism – Cordillera as they finally revealed on Wednesday, February 8 the best tourism villages in the region.


The search for the best tourism village has been launched by the agency in December as they aimed of putting in the limelight the tourism villages doing an exemplary performance in promoting sustainable, responsible, equitable, and participatory rural tourism development.

Intensive site validations and rigorous deliberations were then made to determine the winners of the search.


In determining winners, five factors were considered - Sustainable Management, Socio-Economic Sustainability, Cultural Sustainability, Environmental Sustainability, and Rural Economic Development.


Village Hapao-Baang-Nungulunan Clustered Tourism, located in Hungduan, Ifugao, topped the competition and received a P1 million incentive from the agency. Pidlisan Village, located in Sagada, Mountain Province, meantime, received a P500,000 reward for being the second placer.


Placing third is the Naneng Heritage Village in Tabuk City, Kalinga, awarded with P200,000.


Five villages that managed to enter into the top 8 were also given P100,000 each.


These are the Bila Tourism Village in Bauko, Mt. Province, Pasil Slow Food Community in Pasil, Kalinga, Marag Tourism Village in Luna, Apayao, Balbalasang Proper "Pasual" in Balbalan, Kalinga and La Diyang Haven in Tuba, Benguet.


Earlier, Regional Director Jov Ganongan said the ‘financial assistance for said villages will help enhance the quality of tourism experiences through the improvement of trails and access, upgrading of existing public toilets/restrooms, beautification, installing signage, livelihood trainings, other capacity building programs, among others’.
