Baguio City- To build a world-class digital highway and to support the development of technology in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Converge ICT Solution, Inc. has committed to provide a fast internet connection in the remote places of the region.

For this to become possible, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was inked at the Baguio Convention Center on Friday, September 17, 2021, with Converge.

According to the chief executive officer of Converge, Dennis Anthony Uy, they would like to see the Cordillera provinces use the technology to deliver the much-needed service to the people.

“It is my goal to bring connectivity to the majority of Filipino households and with that, the (MOA) signing will bring us closer to reaching that goal,” he said.

A satellite global technology and fiber-optic broadband network will be used for the project to connect difficult-to-reach areas in the towns of Ifugao, Apayao, Mountain Province, Benguet, Abra, and Kalinga.

Meanwhile, the lead engineer of Metroworks ICT, Clarence Alvarado, said that Baguio, La Trinidad, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay (BLSTT) towns have been installed with several backbone cables already and most of them are now active and reaching homes.

Alvarado disclosed that the Phase 1 installation will be until January 2022; the lines will be in seven Benguet towns, six municipalities in Mountain Province, four towns in Kalinga, and four in Abra.

By March 2022 until 2023, Alvarado said the cable lines would have reached Asipulo, Alfonso Lista, Kiangan, and Lagawe in Ifugao; Pudtol, Kabugao, and Flora in Apayao; Paracelis, Barlig, and Natonin in Mountain Province; Kabayan, Kapangan, and Kibungan in Benguet, including Banaue and Hingyon in Ifugao.

The project also aims to bring secondary lines to homes and offices.

Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo graced the signing of the agreement with the lead engineer of Metroworks ICT, Clarence Alvarado, Mountain Province Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan, Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas, and Sagada Mayor James Pooten.
