Baguio City, Philippines – Anti-illegal drugs efforts of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit (RPDEU) of the Police Regional Office - Cordillera were recognized by the Philippine National Police, honoring the unit as the Best Regional Drug Enforcement Unit of the Year 2022.
The agency awarded the Cordillera RPDEU during the 5th Founding Anniversary celebration of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) held in June at PNP Multi-Goal Center, Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame.
Receiving the Plaque of Recognition were Officer-in-Charge, Major Roger Ariel Giwagiw and Team Leader, Lt. Christopher Tudias.
The regional unit confiscated P10.5 billion worth of illegal drugs from June 2016 to June 2022. Among the list of confiscated illegal drugs include shabu, dried marijuana leaves, marijuana seeds, hashish, oil, stalks, seedlings, resin, and fruiting tops.
According to Giwagiw, the team conducted a total of 2,435 buy-busts, search warrant operations and marijuana eradication in the region in said duration.
Moreover, 2,548 drug personalities and individuals were arrested and charged for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
