Balbalan, Kalinga - 48 corn farmers,75 fisherfolks, and 613 farmer-beneficiaries from this town were given financial aid, farming and fishing assistance from the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR).

In a press release posted on Balbalan Shines FB page, Municipal Agriculturist Anita Caldingon informed that the family of around 48 corn farmers were each provided with PhP3, 000 cash, half cavan of rice, 2 trays of eggs, and 3 kilograms chicken from DA-CAR. The recipients are members of farmers’ associations registered to the Municipal Agri-Services Office.

Moreover, Joan Marie Sawadan of Balbalan-Agri-Services Office said that the 75 fisher folks also benefited from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Special Amelioration Program package. Said food package is similar to the ones given to the corn farmers except the cash assistance.

Likewise, 38 fisherfolks from Barangay Tawang and 37 from Barangay Buaya also received tilapia fingerlings and feeds support which was simultaneously distributed with the BFAR special amelioration package.

Each fisher folk was given 10 kilograms pre-starter feeds, 12.5 kilograms starter, 25 kilograms grower, and 12.5 kilograms finisher feeds to sufficiently supply the growth of the tilapia fingerlings until they are harvested.

Meanwhile, 613 farmer-beneficiaries from 9 barangays received fertilizer support subsidy through the DA-CAR Rice Resiliency Project II ( RRP II) and Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund Program (RCEF).

A total of 710 bags of fertilizers that came from the DA's Research Extension Office at Rizal, Kalinga were distributed to said beneficiaries.

Municipal Agriculturist Caldingon informed that the selection of beneficiaries was generated through a computer system based on the data provided therein being filled out by each farmer who registered their names under their respective farmers' association as members.
