In a press release, DA-CAR reports that a total of 602 kilograms of vegetable seeds amounting to P2,457,903 were delivered to 13 municipalities in the province of Benguet.

These include pechay, okra, pole sitaw, mungbean, pumpkin, eggplant, bitter gourd, tomato, squash, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, and snap beans.

Said vegetable seed subsidies were given to the local government units for them to distribute to the local farmers.

DA-CAR through its High Value Crops and Development Program (HVCDP) came up with the seed distribution ‘to ensure food production, availability, and accessibility across the region amidst the pandemic’.

Even before the pandemic, the agency officials said they have been distributing vegetable seeds in all provinces in the region.

Last year, the agency dole out 4,485.11 kilogram vegetable seeds benefitting more than 31, 000 individuals in the region, wherein alongside the seeds, beneficiaries were also given reading materials on how to properly plant the seeds from soil preparation, water and application of fertilizer.

In a statement, DA-CAR HVCDP Focal Person Joan D. Bacbac made certain that the giving of seeds throughout Cordillera shall continue to help farmers grow their own vegetables to provide safe food to their families and the community.
