Baguio City, Philippines - The number of daily arrival of tourists in the city this Christmas season is almost the same as the number of visitors coming in before the pandemic hit the summer capital.

This came after Baguio loosens entry restrictions when the city was classified under Alert Level 2 by the National Inter-Agency Task Force (NIATF) on December 1, 2021.

Before the pandemic swept, the city had an average of 6,000 tourist arrivals per day.

City Tourism Officer Engr. Aloysius Mapalo said the highest VISITA leisure travel arrival was recorded on Saturday, December 1. Some 5,643 tourists arrived on said day.

Mapalo explained that said number doesn't even include the almost 500 visitors who arrived with essential and official business in the city.

Baguio initially set only a 4,000 limit for tourists who are given entry to the city this month. However, on December 14, the local government decided to make the VISITA limit to 5,000 per day, as they were able to manage the earlier curb.

Arriving tourists would go through the Central Triage before being given permission for entry. However, as many accommodation establishments set up their own triage, tourists may skip the lines at the Central Triage and proceed directly to the hotel.

Baguio City also distributed triage operations to different tourism establishments to accommodate more tourists and for a faster triage process.

The city's vaccination target population rate also exceeded 100%.
