Tabuk City, Kalinga – Planning Officer III Efren Y. Danag of the Department of Education (Dep Ed) in the city disclosed that teachers are now 100% prepared with the opening of school year 2021-2022 this August.

Gearing up for Quality Education in times of Pandemic

According to Danag, DepEd Tabuk had been preparing the teachers with trainings in delivering the self-learning modules to their students.

“Since the start of the pandemic, we have been conducting different capability-building trainings especially on the development of the self-learning modules,” Danag said in an interview.

The teachers, he said, had been trained to produce intervention materials and other learning materials so they could still effectively teach the school children amidst the restrictions due to the pandemic.

Psychological training, he said, was also provided to ensure that teachers and learners are mentally prepared.

“We also trained the teachers in Psychological First Aid (PFA) to help them prepare mentally and ready for the challenges and difficulties brought about by the pandemic in terms of the delivery of learning.”

“As to our learners, we also gave them PFA, the same of the teachers, but were contextualized in the level of the learners,” he further explained.

Pre-registration Status

The office recorded around 4,782 pre-registered learners for Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 as of writing. This, according to Danag, is about 81% of the regular enrollees.

“Very little compared to the actual enrollment that we are having kasi most of those who pre-registered have access to online enrollment portals of the different schools in Tabuk City but for those who do not have an online access, medyo marigatan da because of the prevailing situation na manaka-nakang lockdown so they cannot go out and have their pre-registration in the schools,” Danag said.

“I hope by April 30, this figure or number of enrollees will become bigger,” he added.

The office will take the early registrants as their basis in preparation for possible issues and concerns that may arise.

The official enrollment will start by August and the department is eyeing more enrollees by then due to current restrictions.

In terms of vaccination, Danag underscored that around 82% of the teachers received their dose as others are still having their reservations.
