Tabuk City, Kalinga - iKalinga patients experiencing financial difficulties in paying their medical bills have been given help by the Department of Health, providing over P29.1 million under the Medical Assistance for Indigent and Financially Incapable Patients (MAIFIP) program.

Enacted in 2019 under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration, the MAIFIP program seeks to ensure that no patient is denied medical treatment due to financial constraints, promoting accessible and equitable healthcare for all Filipinos.

According to a report from the Kalinga Information Office on March 5, the Kalinga Provincial Hospital received a check amounting to P29,191,815.00 from the DOH, which was turned over to the PLGU.

The funding was made possible through the continued efforts of Governor James S. Edduba, who has continued requesting funds from various national agencies for the implementation of social programs that will benefit the iKalingas.

Who can avail of the program?

The primary beneficiaries of MAIFIP include indigent patients who have limited or no financial capacity to pay for their hospital bills. Financially incapable individuals who may not meet the indigency requirements but still struggle with hospital expenses can also qualify.

Other patients who meet specific criteria set by government healthcare social workers may also be eligible for assistance.

Patients in need of support under MAIFIP are encouraged to visit the KPH Malasakit Center located on the first floor of the KPH Main Building near the ER Room. Those interested should inquire about the necessary requirements to avail the assistance.
