Egay Cordillera agricultural damages reach P474 million, assistance to farmers underway

Baguio City, Philippines – Apart from infrastructure, agriculture was heavily impacted by the wrath of Typhoon Egay in the Cordillera region with damages amounting to P474 million.


This is based on August 06 data of the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera.


Said losses covered 10,897 farmers in the region who lost their corn, rice, and other high-value crops to the typhoon. The damaged produce amounted to P461 million or equivalent to 60,889 metric tons.

In terms of damages to production facility, DA-Cordillera noted P11.1 million in damages while P1.3 million in losses were sustained by the livestock and poultry industry.


Baguio and the 13 municipalities of Benguet documented the highest number of damaged high-value crop plantations.


As to corn product losses, the agency listed 12 municipalities in Abra as affected areas, 7 in Apayao, 4 in Ifugao, and 6 each in Kalinga and Mt. Province.


With said damages brought by the typhoon, the agriculture department is now finalizing the list of farmer recipients to benefit from various interventions necessary for their recovery.


As an initial intervention, the agency already distributed rice seeds and other crop seeds to 109 farmers in Abra which is one of the most affected provinces in the Cordillera.
