El Niño-affected farmers in Cordillera to receive P10k each this July 2024

Baguio City, Philippines – To recover from losses brought by the El Niño phenomenon, 28, 537 farmers in the Cordillera are set to received P10,000 each this July 2024, according to the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera.

 

The cash aid is part of the Presidential Assistance for Farmers, Fisherfolk, and Families (PAFFF) Program under the Office of the President (OP).


The provincial local government units shall be receiving the financial assistance directly from the office of the president which shall later be given to the beneficiaries.

 

No exact date was mentioned for the distribution of the financial assistance to the LGUs, but DA-CAR said it shall be done during the presidential visit of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos, Jr. to the summer capital.

 

The agency said recipients were identified based on damage reports submitted by local government units in the region. Said lists were validated by DA.

 

To recall, the final report dated May 30 from the agency’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office disclosed that the region has a crop production loss of 173,659.70 metric tons and a more or less 1,000 heads livestock loss.

 

Crop production loss was valued at around P1,233,990,965 while livestock loss amounts to P3,432,150.

 

In Kalinga, 637 El Niño-affected farmers were initially assisted through the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment in collaboration with the Provincial Employment Service Office.

 

The latest report from DA-Cordillera showed that P51.14 million worth of crops in the province have been damaged due to the drought season.
