Expanded bridge seen to reduce traffic in Tuguegarao

Cagayan, Philippines―Providing a solution to reduce traffic congestion along the Cagayan Valley Road especially in Tuguegarao City, the Department of Public Works and Highways–Cagayan Third District Engineering Office (DPWH-CTDEO) has finished the 4-lane Labato bridge widening construction in Barangay Namabbalan, Tuguegarao City.


Labato Bridge is an access road to main parts of Tuguegarao City and in Daang Maharlika from Sta. Fe to the municipality of Lal-lo.


Reports said the construction of 70.6 meter bridge is funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2019 with project cost of PhP67 million, benefitting the residents since the fourth quarter of 2020.

Public Works and Highway Secretary Mark Villar said that the bridge expansion from its previous two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes allows the travelling public to utilize a wider road network capacity.


“Upgrading the Labato Bridge does not only service commuters coming in and out of Tuguegarao City. It also enables for a more convenient city access to hasten delivery of goods and services,” Secretary Villar said.

The completion of the bridge widening project leads to the facilitation of improvement in economic activities in the city proper by solving traffic congestion along the Cagayan Valley Road.


Moreover, it will increase the socio-economic activities around the area offering convenient access for easier delivery of goods and services.
