Baguio City, Philippines - Taking care of your teeth is essential, but what happens when the person you trusted to perform treatment or dental services turns out to be a fraud?

One case was recorded in Baguio City recently, where a man pretending to be a dentist was arrested by authorities after offering illegal dental services online, putting the people at risk instead of protecting their health.

The fake dentist, whose identity was not disclosed by the authorities, was apprehended during an undercover operation carried out by the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit-Cordillera (RACU-CAR) on May 14, 2025, in said city.

The agency, in its report, said the suspect has been illegally offering dental services through online platforms and was caught performing procedures without the required certificate of registration and professional license during the time of operation.

To ensure transparency and due process, the operation was conducted in the presence of the Punong Barangay in the area where the suspect was executing the illegal dental activities.

As the man failed to show the necessary documents, he was arrested and is now in police custody. He was charged for violating Republic Act No. 9484, otherwise known as the Dental Act of 2007, and Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cyber Crime Prevention Act of 2012.

Following the incident, the public is urged to be extra cautious when seeking medical or dental services online to avoid being a victim of a fake health professional.
