Father and son found dead in Natonin, Mt. Province

Natonin, Mt. Province – A father and son were found lifeless in a river in Banawel, Natonin on Sunday, May 15. They are believed to have drowned on the afternoon of May 14, 2022.

Natonin Municipal Police Station identified the victims as Renz Ardel Charwasen, a grade 4 learner at Layog-Ogtong Primary School and his father Rindo Charwasen.

As reported, the victims along with other relatives on May 14 attended the birthday party of Spencer Chumilang, son of Sanggunian Bayan re-electionist Jerry Chumilang at the house of a certain Arthur Mariano.

After swimming at about 11:00 AM, the birthday attendees including the victims went for lunch at the house of Mariano. After lunch, the report mentioned that the son asked his father to go back to the river and practice swimming.

At 1:30 pm, Charwasen and his son left the place.

At about 2:30 pm, Councilor Chumilang's Toyota Hilux (pick-up) and Vice-mayor Remundo Lapasen's waste track ferried some of the participants to Poblacion, Natonin. These include the immediate family of the victims.

When the family of the victims arrived at their place at Butac, Natonin at 7.30PM, it was only then that they noticed that the two were missing.

They contacted their relatives at Tuboy, Banawel to ask if they saw the two, but the responses they received were all negative. Search for the two followed.

At around 9:30 in the morning of May 15, 2022, the lifeless body of the father was first located at the river bed, approximately 5-meter deep.

After which, the son was also found 2 meters away from his father. Police report revealed that they were found 200 meters away where the birthday celebration was held.
