Tinglayan, Kalinga – A father and his son who have a standing warrant since 2015 for frustrated murder were arrested on January 28 and 29, 2021.

The Police identified the suspects as Basyag Calsiyao and Jerome Calsiyao.

According to Kalinga Police Provincial Director PCol. Davy Vicente Limmong, the son, Jerome, was first arrested on January 28 in Sitio Payyanga, Barangay Basao after the kalinga police assisted the PNP personnel from Batangas who came to see his partner who was allegedly missing since 2018.

“Adda iti asawa na nga taga Batangas which is allegedly missing nga indeclare da dagiay parents na. Isu napanan da dagiay nagapu iti Batangas nga PNP personnel, kinadwaan da and then di napan da ijay inconfirm mi jay warrant na still active, so inarrest mi daytoy Calsiyao,” he said.

Upon his arrest, Jerome’s father accompanied him. However, when the police verified with the court, the father was also included in the warrant.

“Di kinadwaan ni tatang na, gayam upon verification with the court, including gayam ni tatang na ijay warrant,” he said.

They are now under the custody of Kalinga Police Provincial Office while awaiting their swab result before they will be committed to jail.

Police waiting for Jerome and partner’s decision to surrender

Meanwhile, Jerome was said to be a member of a communist terrorist group in 2017, two years after his arrest warrant for frustrated murder was issued. Additionally, his partner was also alleged to be affiliated with leftist organizations, although her name was not included in the list when the police verified.

“Actually there are 2 issues here, ti issue mi kanyana is only the warrant as to his membership in the CTG, he has to voluntary surrender ... awan met iti basis mi nga i-arrest mi isuna [as a CTG member]. He’s just merely a member of CTG unless adda firearms na nga naala mi,” he said.

He added that although they were declared as terrorist group, there was no case yet wherein an individual is arrested for merely being a member. Moreover, in order for CTG members to clear their name, they have to denounce membership and support to left leaning organizations.

“Once nga inaramid na diyay, then we can declare him as a surrenderer and we can process whatever benefits na pwede niyang makuha sa ELCAC,” Limmong said.
