Tuguegarao City, Cagayan - A fire believed to have been caused by faulty wiring gutted a two-storey house in Annafunan East, Tuguegarao City on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

The burnt house is owned by a married couple identified as Frederick Danao and Lolita Danao.

In his interview with the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, Annafunan East Barangay Chairman Eddie Arugay relayed that the blaze might have been caused by a short circuit or faulty wiring.

This conclusion comes after Lolita Danao reported that she noticed something explode on the second floor of their house before the fire occurred.

Lolita, in a separate interview with local media, recounted that she was with her two grandchildren at the time of the incident. Since her husband was at their farm at the time, she immediately took the two children outside their house and attempted to go upstairs. However, she failed to do so since the fire had already broken out.

Lolita added that all their household equipment and goods were burnt, including a large amount of cash sent by her son from abroad.

The victims will try to negotiate with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), hoping that the burned money can be replaced.

At present, further investigations are being conducted by authorities to determine the cause of the fire and the cost of the damage.
