Balbalan, Kalinga – The adventure of this year’s Bodong Festival extended beyond the Lumin-Awa Trek in Tinglayan, as iKalingas and visitors also enjoyed the cool breeze of Balbalan and immersed themselves in the heritage of the Cordillera’s Best Tourism Village.

On February 18 and 19, at least 185 campers arrived in Ducligan, Balbalasang, for the Bodong Festival Camp Out – one of the activities lined up for the 7th Bodong Festival and the 31st Founding Anniversary of Kalinga.

The event allowed campers to take in the breathtaking views and experience the fresh, cool air of Balbalasang, recognized as the Best Tourism Village in the Cordillera region in 2025. They were also treated to cultural performances by Balbalasang Elementary School pupils, St. Paul’s Memorial School of Kalinga, Inc., and local villagers.

The camp featured dances, songs by the Lumin-Awa Band, socialization, and cultural immersion for all 185 participants. They were warmly welcomed by Mayor Almar Malannag and Vice Mayor Regina Munda-Cruz, along with Punong Barangay Erwin Mangaoang. Other notable attendees included Governor James Edduba, Board Member Christopher Donaal, and Board Member Emilio Kitongan.

In a statement, Mayor Malannag thanked the province for assigning Balbalan as host of the Festival Camp Out, saying it was an opportunity for more people to discover the gem that is Balbalasang, the Best Tourism Village in Cordillera in 2025.

The area is known for the Ducligan Viewpoints & Campsites which offer cool mountain air, panoramic views of rolling hills, and perfect spots for camping, nature walks, and sunrise/sunset viewing. It also boasts the Rice Terraces of Balbalasang with scenic agricultural terraces that reflect indigenous farming practices and breathtaking landscapes. Further, Lush Pine Forests & Hiking Trails populate the area which is ideal for trekking and exploring forest ecosystems. Add to that Waterfalls & Rivers with serene natural spots for picnics, swimming, and nature appreciation.
