Tinglayan, Kalinga – Around 90 entries from the 12 barangays in Tinglayan are set to participate in the Search for Healthy Household and Green Hand Innovation.

This is a project by the Local Government of Tinglayan under the leadership of Mayor Sacrament Gumilab under its solid waste management program.

Assessment of participating individuals, households and barangays by the Search Working Committee has kicked off on November 4 in Barangays Sumadel I and Sumadel II.

The first round of assessment will comprise 60 percent of their over-all score. The team has evaluated 7 participating households in said areas for the healthiest household category.

In Belong Man-ubal, the committee found 4 households vying for the Healthiest Household award.

As for other barangays, vying for the same category are 18 households from Mallango, 3 from Bugnay, 6 each from Buscalan and Ngibat, 10 from Tulgao East, 8 from Tulgao West, 15 in Lower Bangad, 10 in Centro Bangad and 6 from Upper Bangad.

Meantime, only one entry coming from these barangays made it for the Search for Green Hand Innovation.

“We are very happy that many households are very eager to participate in the government’s program. We’ve seen some households who will be great contenders for the title, ‘healthiest household’ and we can’t wait to see how the other barangays will fare,” Pacita Dangi, Designated Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer said.

According to Dangi, the program is serving as a parameter to check if programs in health, sanitation and solid waste management are being implemented in the 20 barangays of Tinglayan and determine the measure’s effectiveness.

“So, I hope all barangay officials and BLGU will adequately prepare for this,” she added.

Relative to this, Dangi is now encouraging all barangays to prepare for their upcoming assessment, especially for the Search for Healthiest Barangay category.

She urged BLGUs to organize their documents, including their best practice policies, ordinances, and other supporting papers because these have a great impact on their evaluation.

Meantime, for this week, the team is scheduled for assessment in Barangays Basao, Luplupa, Old Tinglayan, Poblacion, Ambato and Dananao.

As recalled, Tinglayan LGU has allocated an amount of P460,000 for said activity; P300,000 for the Search for Healthy Barangay, P100, 000 for the Search for Healthy Household and P60,000 for the Search for Green Hand Innovation.

Winners of the said search shall be awarded in December during the LGU Christmas Party.
