Baguio City, Philippines – A Pacu fish, known for its human-like teeth and kinship with piranhas, was caught by an angler at Burnham Lake in Baguio City on December 8, 2022.

Pacu is a freshwater fish that is related to the ferocious piranha. But unlike the latter, they are said to predominantly feed on nuts, fruits, and seeds but they munch on smaller fish when there is a scarcity of food.

While there are rumours about pacu fish biting men’s private parts in other countries, this was said to be an overblown one and cases are isolated. A pacu attack, according to fish experts, is highly unlikely.

The small-scaled pacu caught at Burnham Lake was fished by Clemen Encarnacion of Camp 7 while having recreational fishing with his son Cale Diovan on December 8, the Baguio City Public Information reported.

The said fish is almost 0.5 meters in length and it weighed approximately 3-4 kilograms. This pacu fish was immediately released back to the lake after documentation.

Meantime, registration for the Yuletide Fishing Competition in Baguio City will be until December 15, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Malcolm Square.
