Tabuk City, Kalinga – Four Chinese nationals who are running businesses in Tabuk City were arrested recently for overstaying and for operating without appropriate permit and visa.

The arrested individuals were named by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) as Huang Xilai, 57; Huang Huifang, 51; Huang Menggui, 24; and Huang Mengjiao, 28.

According to the BI, operatives apprehended Huang Xilai on February 2 inside a business establishment in Dagupan Centro. His arrest came after he was observed managing store operations, while records show he had been overstaying in the country and was ‘engaging in gainful employment without the appropriate visa or permit’. The BI noted he only showed a digital copy of his passport and was unable to present valid travel documents.

On the same day, BI operatives nabbed the other three individuals in a separate operation in Bulanao. The three were arrested inside a commercial establishment for ‘overstaying, engaging in gainful occupation without proper authorization, working outside the scope of their visa petition, and being undocumented’.

The four foreigners were taken to Manila for booking, medical examination, biometrics processing, and documentation for preliminary investigation and possible deportation proceedings.

In a press statement, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado asserted their bureau’s commitment to enforce immigration laws to curb illegal foreign employment in the country, saying, ““The Bureau of Immigration remains firm in its mandate to go after foreign nationals who abuse their stay and violate Philippine laws.”
