Pinukpuk, Kalinga─Entry of tourists and visitors to Gigantic Rocks along the stretch of the river in Barangay Aciga, Pinukpuk is now strictly prohibited following the announcement of the barangay officials there.

Barangay Aciga is known for its massive rocks and differently shaped boulders lying along the stretch of the river creating a majestic sight.

Aciga has been one of the choice destinations in Pinukpuk, irresistible to both to local and foreign tourists.

Aciga Punong Barangay Angelo Baliling reiterates the order on the closure of the Aciga River due to numerous individuals who still insisted to go to the river despite announcements and posted notice of closure of the tourist site.

“Ti problema idiay umad-adu ti CoViD-19 cases ditoy municipality ken adu ti kumpurmi nga tao nga sumrek idiay nga madi ma-control en,” he stated.

Baliling added that he organized a barangay checkpoint upon the entry to the river to ensure that tourist and visitors will not be able to enter the place.

“Inpa-closed ko diyay nga temporary sunga nagaramid kami ti checkpoint, idi nagaramid nak ti pakdaar idiay Barangay Catabbogan diay sumrekan ket naikkat so ti inaramid ko na lang nagpa checkpoint nak pagpasok diay Aciga,” he said.

Clarification on garbage issue in Aciga

Baliling clarified that the closure of the tourist site is not due to garbage problem. He said that rubbish are taken care of and that there are people who guard the place, assuring that littering or any form of vandalism is not tolerated in the tourism site.

The solid waste has been one of the problems of many tourist sites in the province of Kalinga which usually point to the issue of undisciplined tourists.

Meantime, he disclosed that there will be an establishment of comfort rooms and cottages on the site through the solicited fund from the municipal officials as preparation, once the tourism activities will open to the public.

The temporary closure of the tourism site is also in line with Executive Order banning tourism activities released by the Local Chief Executives (LCE) in the province.
