Dolores, Abra – “Nasingpet, nalaing, awan ti kinariririna pulos itoy manipud kinabaro na, haan pulos naglokloko (He’s kind, talented, has no enemies, and is honest),” tearfully said Charity Joy Bergonia as she described her son, Jemie Joy, who passed away due to a motorcycle accident.

Jemie, 26, met the tragic accident on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, in Dolores, Abra.

In a phone interview, Dolores Municipal Police Station OIC Police Captain Jaddi Fernandez relayed that based on their investigation, Jemie had a drinking session with a friend in Barangay Cabaroan earlier that day.

After the drinking session, Jemie insisted on going to Barangay Talugtog despite his friend’s attempt to stop him, as he was already intoxicated at the time.

On his way, Jemie was believed to have been riding his motorcycle at a moderate speed in Barangay Cabaroan when he lost control on a curved portion of the road and struck a tree by the roadside.

Fernandez said the 26-year-old was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. As a result, he sustained severe head injuries, leading to his untimely death.

“Idi paawid daytoy aggapu diay Barangay Cabaroan ngarud nga agturong iti Barangay Talugtog adda met ditoy yanti kalsada nga didjay ket medyo adda kurbaan na bassit, so mapapati datoy nga ni Jemie ket medyo nataray bassit ti motor na ta haan met anyana nga sharp curve didjay ket dita metten nga haan nakontrol siguro diay manibela ket dita metten nga dinmungpar idiay puon ti kayo idiay igid ti kalsada,” relayed the police captain.

In an interview with Balitang Solid North, Charity recalled her youngest son’s daily routine, describing him as a kind young man who never deceived anyone.

“Dati dati gamin, sumangsangpet parbangon diay mapupuutan. Ada latta met dita nga makitak matmaturog nu makariing nak ti bigaten. Following the incident, the local police station reminded the public anew not to drive while intoxicated, to avoid road accidents, and to always wear a helmet for safety.
