Gov. Tubban commends wisdom, hard work, contribution of the elderly

Tabuk City, Kalinga – While some people ignore the contributions of the elderly or senior citizens, Governor Ferdinand Tubban honored the wisdom, hard work and inputs of said sector in community development.

In his keynote message during the Senior Citizen Assembly in Malagnat, Pinukpuk this January 23, Tubban stressed that the younger generation can learn valuable life lessons from the experiences and wisdom of the elderly.

“When we talk to older adults, we are looking at vast gallery of successes and failures, and we have the opportunity to learn from these and can pass on the lessons to the younger generations,” underscored the governor.

This, he said, is because the elderly gained an immeasurable depth of experiences, allowing them to have entirely different perspective on various topics. Thus, the senior citizens should not be neglected but should be accorded due respect.

With this outlook, Tubban reiterated special privileges of the elderly that they should take advantage of, in accordance with Republic Act 9994 or ‘The Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.’

The law gives full support to the improvement of the total well-being of the elderly and their participation in society, considering that senior citizens are an integral part of the Philippine society.

Among the privileges that the elderly are entitled to include the 20% discount and exemption from the value-added tax (VAT) on applicable goods and services such as medicines, hospital bills, utilities, public transportation, and others.

“Dagitoy a benepisiyo ket pang-supapak iti gobiyerno tayo kadagiti sakripisiyo yo ken kas panang-respeto met laeng kadakayo. Kasta met iti probinsiya tayo, adu dagiti um-umay ti opisina tayo a mangibaga kadagiti concerns da ket sidadaan tayo met a mangited ti kabaelan tayo nga ipaay,” Tubban stated.

The governor then encouraged the members of the said sector to continue guiding the young with their knowledge, wisdom and experiences, adding that they should likewise take care of their health as they are considered being vulnerable to COVID-19.

“Agtitinnulong tayo ngarud para iti pagimbagan ti inginguten tayo a probinsiya iti Kalinga ken para iti naranraniag a masakbayan dagiti annak tayo,” concludes the governor.
