Lamut, Ifugao – Residents of Ifugao living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) no longer need to travel long hours to Baguio or other provinces for care, following the recent opening of the HIV Treatment Hub in the town of Lamut.

Named Balen di Pamhod (“House of Love”), the hub is located at Panopdopan District Hospital (PDH) and has been certified to provide comprehensive HIV treatment and related services.

The certification was granted by the Department of Health–Cordillera (DOH-CAR), through the National AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections Prevention (STI) and Control Program, which aims to reduce the transmission of HIV and STIs while mitigating their impact on individuals, families, and communities.

In its report, DOH-CAR confirmed that PDH is now ready to deliver HIV care for residents of Ifugao and nearby areas. The agency said the facility offers a safe and welcoming environment where patients can access care without fear or stigma.

An earlier report from the Provincial Implementation Team (PIT) revealed that a total of 57 HIV cases were recorded in Ifugao in 2025. Across the entire Cordillera region, DOH-CAR documented 1,355 cases from 1984 to June 2025.

Of the total cases in Ifugao last year, 99.9% were transmitted through sexual contact, 94% involved biologically male individuals, 49% were aged 25–34, and 26% were aged 15–24.

Given the high number of HIV cases in the Cordillera, the new treatment hub aims to address the rising number of HIV-infected individuals in the region.

With the opening of the hub in Lamut, every province in the Cordillera, including the chartered city of Baguio, now has a dedicated HIV treatment facility.

Other hubs are located at Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC), Baguio City Health Services Office, Notre Dame De Chartres Hospital (Baguio), Kabsat Wellness Center (Baguio), Abong ti Namnama (Abra), Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center (Apayao), and Kalinga Provincial Hospital (Balay Luminawa Treatment Hub).
