"I'll recover. I'll return." - Thunder Kid Adiwang vows comeback after hand fracture sidelines title pursuit

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Igorot mixed martial artist Lito "The Thunder Kid" Adiwang has vowed to return stronger after successfully undergoing surgery for a fractured right hand sustained during his bout against Brazil's Antonio "The Flash" Cesar at ONE Fight Night 45 on July 11 in Bangkok, Thailand. Doctors estimate that he will need at least six months of recovery before he can compete again.

Adiwang is among the country's most accomplished Igorot mixed martial artists, bringing pride to the Cordillera through his performances on the international stage. Hailing from Baguio City with roots in Mountain Province, he has become one of the Philippines' most recognizable names in mixed martial arts.

The fight that led to the injury

Before facing Cesar, Adiwang entered ONE Fight Night 45 riding the momentum of two consecutive first-round technical knockout victories over Mauro Mastromarini in November 2025 and Eko Roni Saputra in May 2026.

He was originally scheduled to face Joshua Perreira before Cesar stepped in as a replacement opponent.

The bout was later changed to a catchweight contest after the Brazilian failed to make the flyweight limit and did not pass ONE Championship's hydration test. Despite giving up the advantage, Adiwang accepted the revised matchup.

According to national media reports, Adiwang fractured the knuckle on his right hand after landing a powerful punch in the opening round. The injury severely limited his striking for the remainder of the three-round fight, forcing him to rely on his resilience and determination as Cesar controlled much of the contest through wrestling and ground control to earn a unanimous decision victory.

Despite the injury, Adiwang completed all three rounds, drawing praise from fans for refusing to quit even after losing the full use of his primary striking hand.

He underwent successful surgery in Bangkok on July 19. Doctors advised him to rest for six weeks before beginning rehabilitation, with a full recovery expected to take approximately six months.

"I'll recover. I'll return."

Despite the setback, Adiwang remains determined to continue his pursuit of a ONE Championship world title.

In a heartfelt message posted on his official social media account, the Igorot fighter said he believes every challenge has a purpose and that his faith will guide him through another comeback.

"This isn't how I wanted things to turn out, but I believe that everything happens for a reason... the result wasn't the one I prayed for, but God's plans are always greater than mine. I know I proved one thing—I'm a born warrior, and quitting is not in my blood," he wrote.

He also expressed his gratitude to ONE Championship for providing immediate medical care after the fight and reaffirmed that the defeat and injury would not stop him from chasing his ultimate goal.

"This journey doesn't end here. It's only another chapter in my story. I believe there is a purpose behind every challenge... I'll recover. I'll return. I'll chase my dreams again. The road to the ONE World Title doesn't end here. It continues, and I'll keep walking it with faith," he wrote.

Although the injury temporarily halts his campaign in ONE Championship's flyweight division, supporters remain confident that the "Thunder Kid" will once again overcome adversity.

As he begins months of rehabilitation, fans across the Cordillera and the Philippines continue to rally behind the Igorot warrior, believing that his latest setback is only another step in his journey back to the world stage.
