iKalinga cop killed while responding to robbery in Quezon City

Tabuk City, Kalinga – iKalinga police, Patrolman Harwin Curtney Baggay, was on duty with his buddy early morning of Monday when they heard successive gunshots; as they ran towards the crime scene to save lives, Baggay had no idea he was about to lose his.

 

According to the Quezon City Police District(QCPD), Baggay and his colleague from the District Tactical and Motorized Unit were stationed at a Fixed Visibility Post in front of Benigno Aquino Elementary School on June 30 when the incident took place.

 

While at work, Baggay and his buddy were alerted by several gunshots 25 meters away from their post, which prompted them to respond and found a robbery taking place.

 

The suspect, who had already shot his victim, Sonny, a vendor, in his left upper arm and left trunk, fired at Baggay, hitting his left arm, which went through his chest. The responding cop managed to return fire while his buddy shot and killed the suspect.

 

The young iKalinga police officer who is from Pinukpuk was rushed to the Rosario Maclang Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:38 a.m. on Monday.

 

QCPD, meantime, condoled with the family of the fallen police and honored his bravery through reaffirmation of their commitment to upholding peace and order in Quezon City.

 

“The QCPD mourns the untimely passing of a courageous and dedicated public servant who made the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of his sworn duty. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Patrolman Harwin Curtney Baggay and assure them of our full support in this time of grief,” the QCPD wrote.
