iKalinga fighter, Alexander Tagure Jr., to compete in World Youth MMA on July 25

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Alexander Tagure Jr., the 16-year-old iKalinga fighter, will be representing the Philippines in the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation(IMMAF) Youth World MMA Championships in Abu Dhabi on Friday, July 25, 2025.


The Youth World MMA is considered the most prestigious MMA amateur match in the world, which drew more than one thousand athletes from 60 countries this year.


Alexander will be fighting in the Youth/Men/Youth A/ Strawweight 52.2 kg category, where he is set to face three competitors on Friday. The 16-year-old will be up against Tigran Gasparyan of Armenia, Thor Beck of the United States, and Saif Alhammadi of the United Arab Emirates.

Alexander’s coach, Erwin Tagure, relayed to GURU Press Cordillera that Alexander has to win all three fights for him to be qualified in the knockout elimination bracket.


Coach Erwin expressed his gratitude to everyone for bringing Alexander to the Youth World MMA and for everybody’s support and prayers. Tagure said he is hoping for the best for the young iKalinga fighter.


Alexander, on the other hand, has earlier thanked his supporters from all walks of life, saying, “umunana iti amin ket agpapasalamat nak kenni Apo Diyos ta adda nak ditoy. Agpapasalamat nak kenya yo nga sumup-suporta kenyak, nu haan nga gapu dita suporta yu ket haan nak makaapan ditoy. Sala-salamat unay. Laban, Pilipinas!
