Tabuk City, Kalinga - One of the Philippines’ tennis prodigies Jairo Zepplin Kidang Flores from Tabuk City, Kalinga continues to make waves in the national tennis scene as he recently won a tennis double match in Malate, Manila.

Thirteen-year-old Jairo is now being touted as one of the sport's bright young stars in the country as he climbs to the top of the Philippine tennis rankings.

From 136th rank in the 14U category, he rose to 32nd rank as of November 30, 2024, as cited by the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA), a national governing body for tennis in the country.

With his new rank, he was awarded a wild card spot in the coveted President's Cup Masters 8 of the Palawan Pawnshop National Tennis Championships, a competition that provides tennis players in the country to show off their skills and shine.

The event, which took place from January 5 to 10, 2025 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate, gathered the nation's best and brightest young tennis players and competed in different categories.

Although he fell short at the single category as he got to play most of the topnotch players during the competition, Jairo’s prowess made more apparent in the double match after he and his partner Anthony Bjorn Castigador from Iloilo City captured the championship title against top five contenders.

Apart from his dedication and hard work, Jairo's success in the event is credited to the guidance of John Mari Altiche, a former top-ranked player.

As a proud representative of Kalinga, Jairo's journey is an inspiration to aspiring athletes who prove that determination, resilience, and the right opportunities can propel even the youngest talents to greatness.
