La Trinidad, Benguet—A police officer who was a victim of a road accident that left him comatose for almost a month died on Sunday, July 30.

Police identified the victim as Police Master Sergeant Raycon Gil Ganon, 34, a resident of Lower Quirino Hill, Baguio City, but a native of Pinukpuk, Kalinga. He was assigned to the Benguet Police Provincial Office.

Earlier this month, Ganon, while crossing a pedestrian lane at KM.5, La Trinidad, was hit by a Toyota Fortuner. Due to the impact of the crash, Ganon sustained severe injuries.

The incident put him in a comatose state at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Benguet General Hospital.

Based on the alcohol breath test, the 31-year-old driver-suspect whose identity has been withheld, is positive for alcohol intake.

He is currently detained at the La Trinidad Municipal Jail in Poblacion, La Trinidad.

Instead of just facing charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Physical Injuries and Violation of R.A. 10586 (Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013), the suspect could also face Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide.

Meantime, Ganon’s remains are now at the La Paz Funeral Homes and will be ferried to his hometown in Kalinga on Tuesday, August 1.
