Kalinga legislative body approves support to Kalinga athletes in Batang Pinoy, PH National Games

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Young athletes from Kalinga who will be competing in the Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games may soon get assistance from the provincial government.

On September 05, Kalinga Provincial Human Resource Management Officer Grace Flores appeared before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan body to air the concerns of parents whose kids compete in national sports competitions.

Kalinga Provincial Information Office reported that Flores requested a program institutionalizing scholarship assistance to players, citing Department of the Interior and Local Government Memorandum Order 2023-120 which mandates local chief executives to support the national championships of Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games.

Said scholarship could be provided by the PLGU by supporting the athlete’s training and expenses for the competition proper.

Flores likewise requested the SP body to allow the Office of the Provincial Governor Local Youth Development Officer and Office of the Provincial Human Resource Management to provide technical assistance in crafting the mechanics for the scholarship program.

Flores argued that athletes should start training at a young age and that they should not just train for provincial and CARAA Meets, but also for other national and international games.

The August body approved the request and endorsed it to the concerned SP committee for further review.
