Tabuk City, Kalinga- Recipients of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) have started to work for a period of 20 days, starting May 17 at the Provincial Local Government Unit PLGU of Kalinga.

Each of the 100 qualified recipients will be receiving a daily wage of P420.55 per day, of which 60% will be coming from the provincial government, while 40% will be coming from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Provincial Human Resource Management Officer Grace K. Flores said the beneficiaries were deployed to the different government offices to do cleaning and field works. She assured that they will not be exposed to ‘hazardous areas’ like the provincial hospital.

During the orientation, Flores told the students that they may be excused if they need to attend important matters like their examination or module submission. However, they will have to make up for their days of absence since they are required to complete the 20 working days.

Meanwhile, Governor Ferdinand Tubban immediately directed the Local Finance Committee to remedy, so they could accommodate more students to benefit from the program; as it was earlier reported by PHRMO that around one thousand students applied for the said program.

DOLE came up with the SPES program to provide temporary employment to poor but deserving students and out-of-school youth. The proceeds of their salaries are intended to compensate the students’ financial expenses to pursue their education.
