Kalinga PLGU reminds public to be wary of dengue this rainy season

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The weather bureau, PAGASA has recently announced that the start of the rainy season would be between June and August this year.

 

In connection to said announcement, the provincial local government unit is urging iKalingas to remain vigilant against the threat of mosquito-borne disease, particularly Dengue fever this season.

 

Said disease is prevalent during the rainy weather since mosquitos thrive in stagnant water. Additionally, the climate during these times is favorable for the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes, which is a known to be a vector of several viruses including dengue virus.

 

In order to combat the disease, the LGU is one with the health department in reminding public anew to be vigilant and adhere to preventive measures.


Said measures is the 5S Strategy – Search and Destroy, Self-protection, Seeking Early Consultation, Support Fogging and Spraying, and Staying hydrated.

 

Search and destroy is the elimination of stagnant waters in any containers that could possibly utilize by mosquitoes as breeding site while self-protection is the use of long-sleeve clothing and the use of repellant.

 

If symptoms of the disease are observed - fever, headache, and joint pains, the public should seek professional care immediately. In the community, the public are urged to participate in fogging and spraying activities.

 

Sustaining hydration is also a must, according to the Department of Health.

 

“Let’s all take part in these preventive measures to keep our community safe from dengue. Stay informed, protected, and act swiftly to reduce mosquito breeding sites. Together, we can fight dengue this rainy season.” The provincial government wrote.

 

In the latest data by DOH-Cordillera, they noted that dengue cases in the region increased by 20 percent - from 1,557 on same period last year to 1,869 this year.

 

Three individuals have been reported to have died due to the disease.
