Tabuk City, Kalinga – Despite constant reminders from concerned agencies on the use of firecrackers, Cordillera was not spared from firework-related injuries, with Kalinga recording the highest cases.

Of the 27 cases recorded, Kalinga topped the list, noting 10 cases, followed by Baguio City with 9, Abra with 4, and Apayao and Benguet with 2.

The data is based on the 6:00 AM update from the Department of Health-Cordillera on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

The region’s record for this year is eight percent higher when compared to the same period last year.

Among all the cases recorded since December 21, 2023 until today, January 2, no amputations or deaths were reported.

DOH-Cordillera said that the victims are in the age range of 5 to 60 years old.

The agency further noted that 93 percent of the firecrackers used by victims were illegal. Fifty-eight percent of the cases, in the meantime, happened at their houses.

As to stray bullet injuries, Baguio listed a sole case - a 60-year-old Catholic priest residing at the Holy Family Parish in Barangay Bakakeng Norte who sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder.
